Frequently Asked Questions About Service Dog Training
The service dog training process typically takes around two years to complete. However, the exact duration can vary based on the dog’s individual temperament, the specific tasks it needs to learn, and the dedication of the handler.
As per ADA requirements, you must qualify as disabled and require the assistance of a service dog. Specific documentation requirements can be discussed during your consultation.
While it is possible, it’s exceptionally rare for a pet dog to become a service dog. I offer evaluations to determine if your dog might be suitable, but success rates are low.
Service dogs can be trained for various tasks including mobility assistance, medical alert, PTSD support, autism support, and more. Specific tasks are tailored to your disability-related needs.
Not all dogs are suitable for service work. If your dog doesn’t meet the rigorous standards required, I’ll discuss alternative options and next steps with you.
While I can assist with dog selection through our Puppy/Dog Selection Service, I primarily focus on training. I can help evaluate potential candidates and guide you through the selection process.
